Heide Presse
Heide Presse combines her interests in art, history and sewing, and her paintings reveal many talents. Painting 19th century subjects allows Heide to indulge her love for textiles and period clothing. She learned to sew authentic quilts and garments as a way to maintain accuracy in her art, and, also participated in living history in order to have a better understanding of how the clothing should be worn. Heide has always enjoyed reading journals, and when she discovered those written by the folks who migrated west in the mid 1800s, she was inspired to paint their experiences. Moments of daily life are among Heide's favorite subjects, and her use of light and rich color brings them to life.

Born in Germany and raised in Louisiana, Heide earned a degree in graphic design. After working as a commercial artist in Texas, and moving across the country twice, Heide and her husband live in central Florida where she paints in her home studio. Her first success as a painter was with the national Arts for the Parks competition, having 21 paintings juried into 14 years of the show and earning 8 awards including the gold medal for small works. She has also exhibited in the Eiteljorg Museum's Quest for the West, National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum's Small Works Great Wonders, National Museum of Wildlife Art's Western Visions, History Meets the Arts in Gettysburg, Pa, Oil Painters of America, the Gilcrease Museum, the American and National Watercolor Societies, Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale, Cody, WY, among many others. Heide's paintings have been published as fine art editions by The Greenwich Workshop, and 6 of her historical works are in the Larry Silver Art Collection. She is represented by Astoria Fine Art in Jackson, Wyoming.
