Greg Scheibel has always felt a strong connection to the outdoors. Throughout his life he has spent a great deal of time hiking, fishing, backpacking, and closely observing his surroundings, which has led to a deep appreciation for the remote locations and unspoiled beauty of the West, which is the main inspiration for his paintings. Greg paints on location as much as possible, trying to capture an honest record of the values, color, and feel of an area. The emotional connection to nature which is a result of these studies, is the foundation for his work.

Greg was a drywall contractor for many years, always with a dream of taking his passion for art to the next level. Years of drawing, pouring over art books, and collecting and studying the work of artists he admired, as well as a general accumulation of life’s experiences contribute to what he puts into his paintings.

Greg began showing his work in 2005, and has been a fulltime artist since 2007. His work can be found in several of the West’s finest galleries, and he has been invited or juried into a number of prestigious shows. He has received numerous awards for his work, including Awards of Excellence from the Oil painters of America on three occasions, and is a Signature Member of that organization. Greg is also a member of the NWR (Northwest Rendezvous Group of Artists), the Montana Painters Alliance, and an Out of State Artist Member of the California Art Club. He has been listed as an ‘Artist to Watch’ by Southwest Art Magazine, and featured in Art of the West, Western Art Collector, Southwest Art, Distinctly Montana, and Plein Air Magazines.

With a strong work ethic, and genuine passion for expanding his abilities as an artist, he is truly inspired about his career as a painter. Greg and his wife Tracy live in Bozeman, Montana. Visit the artist's website.
