Landscapes by Freeman Butts
January 7 - February 6
East, and North Galleries
|We begin the New Year with Montana Expressions, the landscape paintings of Freeman Butts. His vivid canvases convey the grandeur of Montana with a generous hand. The rhythms of brushstroke and color are bold and intense. Familiar scenes of fields and mountains caught in dramatic moments of storm, snow and harvest pulse with energy.
A gathering of pieces from private collections, the Missoula Art Museum, and some of the Hockaday's own gifts from the Butts' estate will be shown for the first time to the membership and the public. We celebrate Freeman's spirited and creative life which ended 10 years ago. We are grateful to his wife Daisy and to his family for the gifts from the estate.
